Pottermore Reports Record Fourth Quarter Digital Book Sales

Pottermore, the global publisher of the Harry Potter eBooks and digital audio books, today reported record growth in eBook and digital audio book sales for the three months to 31 December 2015, after moving to an open commerce model for retail sales.
The UK-based company, whose website provides digital entertainment, news and e-commerce based on J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, saw eBook and digital audio book sales rise by more than 100% in the final three months of the year compared with the previous quarter.
The increase follows the introduction of a new strategy in 2015, by which Pottermore made its eBooks available for the first time through multiple online retailers such as Amazon, Apple, Barnes & Noble, Google, Kobo, Blackwell’s, WHSmith, Sainsbury’s and online retail platforms in Germany, France, Canada, Italy and several other countries.

The buoyant eBook and digital audio book sales have dominated the Audible bestseller list, reflecting the enduring appeal of the Harry Potter books and their characters, which were first published in 1997.
In the three months since the launch of the open commerce strategy in October 2015, more Harry Potter eBooks and digital audio books were sold than in the previous 12 months combined. Pottermore now forecasts all-time record annual sales of Harry Potter eBook and digital audio books for the financial year ending 31 March 2016.
Jurevics predicted that the encouraging fourth quarter sales figures would underpin the financial performance of Pottermore, which is expected to unveil a number of new commercial ventures in the first half of 2016 as the company continues to invest for long-term growth.
