No other profession seemed to inspire the same level of awe and respect from the wizarding community as the Aurors: no wonder Harry and Ron wanted to be one for so long. And why wouldn’t they? These noble wizards and witches faced Dark wizards head-on and saved countless lives. One might even say they brought about law and Auror. (Sorry...)

They also endured the toughest training and tests. And is it just us, or does it feel like having an edgy sense of style was a secret requirement? (We’re looking at you, Shacklebolt and Tonks.)

But for all we did know about them, there was a lot more that we didn’t know. Aurors were often shrouded in mystery, and the few we learned about left us wishing to know more. If we ever had the chance to grab a few bottles of Butterbeer and chat, these are some of the Aurors we would be absolutely thrilled to hang out with – and ask them about all the Auror gossip.

Alastor Moody

Mad-Eye Moody would no doubt be an intimidating wizard to talk to, what with that large chunk missing from his nose and his spinning electric blue eye and all. And who could forget Charlie Weasley’s little announcement that ‘half the cells in Azkaban’ were ‘full because of him’?

But as tough as Moody was, we had a soft spot in our hearts for him. As an old friend of Dumbledore and retired Auror, Moody risked his life to keep Harry safe. We were sad that we barely got to know him, seeing that the real Moody was locked in his trunk for most of Goblet of Fire, and we were left with so many questions after his unexpected death.

How did he lose his eye and leg? What was his most memorable battle? Did he really proclaim ‘constant vigilance’ or was that just an embellishment by Barty Crouch Jr?

John Dawlish

For a top Auror, Dawlish sure was hexed and beaten quite a lot. When he did make an appearance in the book, he was either being shut down by Albus Dumbledore, hit with the Confundus Charm, or was being sent to St Mungo's by Neville’s Gran.

Despite all his mishaps, we couldn’t help but feel there was a lot more to Dawlish than we saw. He must have been an excellent Auror, as he was often sent to do the hard jobs. (Hey, not many witches or wizards would want to be on Dumbledore’s, or even Mrs Longbottom’s, bad side.) Even Dumbledore, who must have encountered countless students in his time, remembered that Dawlish achieved ‘Outstanding’ in all his N.E.W.T.s.

Sure, Dawlish was a rather by-the-book kind of guy, even if at times the book was written by some incredibly nefarious people, but with him being so indiscriminately loyal to the Ministry of Magic, we could see us having some deep talks with him about loyalty, regrets, and naturally, failure. Also, we just have to know: what did Augusta Longbottom do to send him to hospital?

Tina Goldstein

Across the pond, the no-nonsense, always-ambitious Tina Goldstein lived life as a 1920s Auror at MACUSA, with a small blip (where she got fired for a short while...) in the middle. Her adventures in the Fantastic Beasts films have only just begun, but we'd love to hear more about living life as an American Auror in an entirely different time - and her days at American wizarding school, Ilvermorny. Perhaps over a cheeky Gigglewater at The Blind Pig?

Alice and Frank Longbottom

Though we didn’t hear much about Neville’s parents, what we did learn about them established them as two of the bravest Aurors in the Wizarding World.

Alice and Frank joined the original Order of the Phoenix when there was so much at risk, and they endured both being tortured and seeing their loved one tortured by the Cruciatus Curse for a long time – so long that they lost their sanity. The popular and well-respected couple would’ve been fun to talk to, especially given how loveable Neville and his Gran were.

Plus, we have a feeling that a couple who stuck by each other even until their heartbreaking last stand would have some darn good relationship tips.

Nymphadora Tonks

Wotcha. Not only was Tonks a Metamorphmagus, but also one of the younger Aurors of her time.

It would be so great to hear about her early Hogwarts days in Hufflepuff, and then training to be an Auror under the one and only Mad-Eye Moody. We imagine she had some intriguing stories to tell. Also she was always just so hilarious and down-to-earth in the books.

Kingsley Shacklebolt

Who wouldn’t want to meet the formidable Kingsley? Even the wizard-despising Dursleys were less hostile than usual to the high-ranking Auror, who had a knack for dressing and acting like a Muggle.

Kingsley was a strong presence in the resistance against Voldemort and the Second Wizarding War, from working undercover at the Ministry and misdirecting efforts to find Sirius Black, to protecting and fighting alongside Harry in several dangerous battles. He also did some quick thinking when he modified Marietta Edgecombe’s memory about the DA, and later when he sent his Patronus to Bill and Fleur’s wedding as a warning.

But Kingsley’s past and personal life remained much of a mystery throughout the books. (To be fair, keeping his private affairs private was probably a smart idea for the eventual Minster for Magic.) Yet we couldn’t help but wonder how this wise and level-headed man came to be. Did he have any family left? And how did he know James Potter? If nothing else, we could listen to Kingsley talk with his deep and calming voice all day long.

So how about we get the first round in?
