From Friday 9 March, 40 tickets for every performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Part One and Two the following week will be released for $40 ($20 per part). Read on to find out how you can enter the Friday Forty lottery…

In case you’re not familiar with the term, the ‘Friday Forty’ has been a staple of the London production of Cursed Child, allowing fans the chance to buy tickets each Friday for the following week’s performances at just £20 per part. Now that Broadway performances are beginning from 16 March, we can reveal details of how the Friday Forty will work for New York theatre-goers, too. Ready? Here goes:

Every Friday at 1pm ET, 40 tickets for every performance the following week will be released for some of the very best seats in the theatre at $40 ($20 per part). These tickets will be available through new ticketing partner TodayTix.com or the TodayTix app. Full details can also be found on the Cursed Child website.

Unlike the London show, which asks fans to check on the site at 1pm for the chance to buy tickets, those wanting to see the Broadway production should enter via TodayTix each Friday from 12.01am ET until 1pm ET. You can also set a ‘ticket alert’ now, to be reminded when entry opens.

Those lucky enough to snap up tickets will then be notified between 1pm and 5pm later that day.

These special tickets are only available to buy online through the Friday Forty with TodayTix. You can’t buy them in person from the Lyric Theatre or anywhere else (although if you win, you can pick them up from the theatre on the day). The tickets secure a seat for both Part One and Part Two of Cursed Child in consecutive performances, and there’s a two-ticket maximum.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender say:

‘It’s important to us as producers that Cursed Child is as accessible as possible, which is why we ensure that for every performance we have over 300 tickets priced at $40 or less per part, and 150 of those tickets are priced at $20 per part. These tickets can often sell quite far in advance, so it’s also important to us that tickets are available at these prices on a short-term basis.’

The idea has already been a roaring success for the London show, as they point out. ‘Every Friday we see this wonderful wave of excitement at 1pm when fans find out if they have won the Friday Forty, and they only have to wait a matter of days to see the show.’

We can’t reveal anything here yet, but if you’re a New York fan, make sure you also keep an eye out for a special announcement on Saturday morning! Prepare for something rather exciting…
