The award-winning production will travel Down Under to open at the Princess Theatre, Melbourne, in 2019.

It’s been playing to huge success in London’s West End since 2016 – and will open on Broadway on 22 April 2018 – but now fans in and around Australia will be happy to hear that they can experience Harry Potter and the Cursed Child without having to take an epic long-haul flight.

The lucky city of Melbourne, one of Australia’s most celebrated theatre centres, will be hosting the play at its Princess Theatre in 2019. Watch J.K. Rowling, director John Tiffany and playwright Jack Thorne discuss the announcement in this video.

This isn’t a sudden decision: the play’s producers, Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, say it was an objective from the start to ‘get the production to Australia as soon as logistically possible’. That achieved, they’re thrilled with its final location: ‘Melbourne is a fantastic city with such wonderful culture and heritage, and so we’re thrilled that the gorgeous Princess Theatre will be Cursed Child’s next home.’

Performance dates and ticketing details will be announced soon – so Aussies and their neighbours should keep an eye on the Harry Potter and the Cursed Child website to sign up to the mailing list.
