This Saturday, J.K. Rowling will talk live on Facebook about her children’s non-profit Lumos and their brand new campaign, We Are Lumos Worldwide, including special events and a limited edition t-shirt.
J.K. Rowling’s charity, Lumos, is introducing some brand new events and projects to get excited about – including a new range of limited edition t-shirts, two special Wizarding World events, and an online live interview with the founder herself.
On Saturday 17 September, J.K. Rowling will take part in a Facebook Live interview talking all about Lumos – the international children’s organisation she founded back in 2005. You can even send in your own questions about the charity for her via the Lumos website all this week.
Host Lauren Laverne will quiz the author on all things Lumos, with the interview officially marking the launch of We Are Lumos Worldwide, a global awareness campaign to further help children leave orphanages and return home to their families.
But you don’t need to wait until Saturday to get involved. From today, a new limited edition 'Be the Light' t-shirt is available, where 60% of sale proceeds will support Lumos’ programmes all over the world.
Championing a memorable quote from J.K. Rowling’s Very Good Lives speech from the 2008 Harvard commencement ceremony, the t-shirt features the inspirational line, ‘We do not need magic to transform our world; we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already.’
The action doesn’t stop there. On Sunday 18 September, a gala performance of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre will take place, complete with an introduction from J.K. Rowling to further address the amazing work of Lumos. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the charity.
Across the pond, ticket-holders are gearing up for a fundraising advance screening of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them on 12 November. Once again, J.K. Rowling will be introducing the event alongside Newt Scamander himself, actor Eddie Redmayne.
With the We are Lumos Worldwide campaign initiating programmes all over the world, there are now so many more ways to help bring some light to a child’s life.
