Every year, Potter fans gather at London’s King's Cross station to commemorate the moment Harry Potter boards the Hogwarts Express. This year, however, fans got a Fantastic surprise…
Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law, the stars of the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, sent fans into frenzy this morning at King’s Cross station, with a surprise appearance.
Wizarding World fans know the score when it comes to the 1st September: this is the date that students board the Hogwarts Express and return to school, with the iconic train leaving at 11 o’clock sharp. At King's Cross station in London, fans have taken to gathering here every year to celebrate the moment with a hearty countdown. Kind of like celebrating New Year, but wizard-style.
This year, however, was just a little bit more special, because Eddie and Jude, who play Newt Scamander and Albus Dumbledore in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts film, turned up at King’s Cross to say hello to the fans. We were there to capture all the mayhem – take a look at Eddie and Jude in action.
As you can see, the pair got in on the ultimate Harry Potter photo opportunity while there: a snap posing with the famous trolley that sticks out of the wall between platforms 9 and 10. After that, it was time for some cheeky selfies and general Wizarding World frivolity.
Finally, Edith Bowman joined Eddie and Jude to lead the crowd in a countdown to 11 o’clock, when a station announcement declared the departure of the Hogwarts Express from platform nine and three-quarters. Wands were raised as the crowd cheered, celebrating the start of a new term.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will take us back to Hogwarts on 16 November, where we will get a glimpse of a younger Dumbledore in his teaching days. You can watch the latest trailer here.
