Thanks to some incredible new VR technology, Pottermore were able to step inside Newt Scamander’s shed with Google Daydream’s new Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them VR experience.

We’ve always wanted to step inside the wizarding world, and now we can thanks to Google’s intense new virtual reality platform Daydream and their Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them experience.

The new ground-breaking technology was announced at the Made by Google event in October and the Fantastic Beasts VR Demo debuted at London Comic Con, allowing users to immerse themselves in a virtual world with a 360 degree view. In this case, fans were able to sample a bit of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them before the film’s release on 18 November, and visit a fantastically realistic virtual version of Newt Scamander’s shed.

Now, we don’t know if you noticed, but we’re rather looking forward to the new film, so couldn’t pass up the opportunity to test out the new VR for ourselves. The result? Well, let’s just say it makes us feel like magic might be real after all.

The process works by using Google’s Pixel phone, and inserting it into the Google Daydream View VR headset. You control your surroundings using a small hand-controller, which doubles up as a wand. YES, you will be using an actual wand. Remain calm.

Pop on a pair of headphones, and the real voice of Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander will talk to you, and guide you around a cyber-realisation of his rather messy shed, which will emulate the setting and style from the film perfectly.

Take a look around, and you’ll find Newt’s shed is littered with all sorts of trinkets and magical apparatus you can mess around with. Thanks to the 360 degree view, it genuinely feels like you’re inside his world, and you can even magically interact with things with just a flourish of your wand. Yep, like a real wizard.

From there, Newt will teach you a few useful spells, before taking you out back to meet some Fantastic Beasts in the (virtual) flesh. At one point, we found ourselves feeding a simply ginormous Graphorn, and let’s just say the moment is far more magnificent than feeding your old Tamagotchi.

The experience sets a huge example of how far virtual reality technology has really come. It genuinely feels like, for one shining, glimmering moment, you are standing inside a very small corner of the wizarding world, and can even interact with it.

With Fantastic Beasts still yet to be released, this VR taster has made us more impatient than ever to see more of Newt’s story.

Keep checking the Google Daydream site to discover more amazing, extended updates on the Fantastic Beasts VR experience. Daydream View will go on sale on 10 November.
