MACUSA (pronounced Mah-cooz-ah) stands for the Magical Congress of the United States of America. It was created in 1693 in response to the Salem Witch Trials that had seen witches and wizards persecuted throughout North America. In 1926 (the year in which Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set) MACUSA’s headquarters are located in New York and accessed by enchantments placed on the Woolworth Building.
