Following on from the San Francisco news last week, we can now reveal that Cursed Child is also coming to Hamburg, Germany.

The fifth location for Cursed Child has been announced: Hamburg, Germany!

Yes, the play is due to come to the Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in Hamburg in the spring of 2020. This is the first time we will see Cursed Child performed in a language other than English – German, as you can imagine! And if you were wondering, the Cursed Child title in German is Harry Potter und das verwunschene Kind.

Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender spoke of the excitement of showing the eighth Harry Potter story in German for the first time.

‘We know Harry Potter has millions of German speaking fans and so we’re very proud that we are able to bring our beautiful production to Germany,’ they said in a joint statement. ‘The Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in Hamburg is a unique space, and we’re delighted and grateful to have the opportunity to design and create a perfect, bespoke new home for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in Germany.’

German Producer Maik Klokow, of Mehr-BB Entertainment will work with the originating producers to bring Cursed Child to the stage in Germany.

‘It gives us tremendous joy to present Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in German for the first time, and only here in Hamburg,’ Maik said. ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a once-in-a-lifetime production that is breaking records in London’s West End and on Broadway in New York. I have no doubts this global hit show will enchant millions of Harry Potter fans in Germany.’

The latest announcement comes only one week after the news that Cursed Child will be opening in San Francisco. The play is currently running in London and New York concurrently, and will be opening in Melbourne, Australia in 2019. Phew!
